It Seems Forever…

… since I’ve written my blog. Oh! it has been. I have been so busy with the Jack Learns Series of Books and the one adult (but not ADULT) book I’m writing that I have been worn out to a degree. Because I do not have an agent, I’ve been going place to place to get book signings and talks at libraries and it has been such fun doing it.

I want to thank those who have already bought “Jack Learns to Grill” and encourage others to buy it for your children or even yourself. The next book coming out… I can say now with certainty will be “Jack Learns about Bullies” . Jack and his brothers and sisters will learn why bullies are bullies and it’s okay to always tell an adult if they are bullied or know someone who is. These are serious issues for kids and can be difficult to talk about. I am hoping this book will be out in late April or early May. So, be sure and look for it on or

God is Good All the Time…

…All the time, God is good.  This happens to mean more today than it ever has .

Friday morning, my sister Martha woke up , went into the living room and there was her husband. No real surprise, but he had the lights on- something he never does. His voice was different and all he would say was “Yes.” As my sister went to make the coffee, she turned around to see him walking sideways and saying “No, no.” He then fell and began seizing.  He does not have seizures normally. Martha called the ambulance, who promptly came and got him and they were off to the hospital.

Several tests were performed, but he could just lay with his eyes open, unable to talk. Sometimes, after a seizure , the part of the brain that one uses to talk is affected and it is so odd (this happened to me) because when one is postdictalone can hear, think the answer in their head and think they are saying what they are thinking. It’s amazingly weird, frustrating and scary all in one go. Anyway, when I saw him at the hospital, I knew that’s what had happened. Two different doctors had differing opinions on what happened. One thought it a brain bleed, the other thought it was a stroke. I called my kids and told them what had happened to their uncle and asked them to begin praying. My son, Micah called me back on Saturday morning and asked if I would like to go with he and his wife, Laura and his mother in law, Jill Busha to lay hands on him and pray for Tom. Immediately, I got dressed and went to his house.  We went to the hospital from there.

Once at the hospital, we saw Tom’s children and stopped to talk to them. Mike took me down to the room , where we talked and Tom would sleep and wake up periodically , only to fall back to sleep. He’d gotten no sleep the day before and we dont’ know if he slept the night before the incident. We surrounded his bed, holding hands and Jill prayed with all of us in agreement. That was yesterday.

Today, I woke up to a facebook message from my sister saying he woke up at 3 a.m. and was his old self! She told the doctor that her socks would be knocked off once she saw Tom. They were. She could find no explanation why he was back to his old self. Now, folks, if that is not a miracle from God, I don’t know what is. It wasn’t just that he woke up- he could name his children, how long he had been married to my sister, wanted to move stuff around in the hospital and I suppose he was a bit hungry since they did a swallow study to see if he could eat.

I love seeing God work in these ways. I know He is working in your life too. He’s that still, quiet voice you hear . Listen for it .

An Adventure in Book Signing

I wanted to go to Barnes and Nobles to get a book signing. Who wouldn’t want to sign books at B&N anyway? The lady was pleasant and seemed to be pleased with my book. She told me I should bring my dog-  he would be a draw. And he would.Told me I should get an agent. “Agents will do all this stuff for you and you won’t have to,”she said informingly. Agreeing with my mouth, my head thought, “Yes, but I’m having fun experiencing the whole author thing.”

It was so close. I almost had that signing. But, my book, alas, is not a returnable book and as such , a signing is not permitted. I’m not sure I understand why one would go to a book signing, have the book signed and then return it. But, I am sure that B&N should have that back up just in case it should ever happen. In the meantime, they will be able to order my books in a month and a half or so. I’m praying they will pick it up. I will be in touch and not give up!

Sadly, no, it’s not at Barnes and Noble (though it will be online soon), but it is the dream, isn’t it?

There are still a few revisions to be made and a few adjustments to make to the cover, but it is always so exciting to hold a new book in your hand for the first time, and I am so very excited for this one.  It began as a simply #NaNoWriMo project, one I wasn’t even sure that I would finish.  Five months later, here it is!  Life is pretty neat.

Boy Band will be available on Nook, Kindle,, and on April 21!

Much love, everyone!

Up and Down in the List

I published my first book, Jack Learns to Grill , as you all know on Thursday, Martch 12. Friday, my friend Jackie Smith, told me it was in the top 100 children’s books on Amazon. Then, it went to the top 20!  No one was more surprised than me! Stephen, my husband and I watched as it climbed up the charts and then down and then up. To say it was an emotional couple of days has been an understatement. It has been truly humbling, fun and interesting to watch the charts .One could get quite obsessed over these numbers. But, I choose not to. It is fun to do so, but I never want my writing to be all about numbers and numbers alone.

My friends have been wonderful in spreading the word about my book and buying it . Thank you for the reblogs and liking my twitters… oh  wait! that’s tweets! (can you tell i’ve only just started tweeting?) I appreciate it more than you know!

If you haven’t read or bought my book, here is the link once more . I am working on the second in the series of Jack Learns books. Can’t wait to get it out! yay!!!!!

Book Released Today!

My first book, “Jack Learns to Grill” was released today – finally! And yet, just in time. I am so excited and can’t wait to see where the Jack Learns series takes me.

I wrote this little story about a year or two ago and have only recently , with the help of my good friend Jackie Smith, author of Cemetery Tours and my family  decided that publishing it was a real possibility. This is something I have dreamed of for so many years. Now, it is a reality and I’m so excited!!!! Thank you to Jackie and my family.

If you would like to see what Jack Learns to Grill is about, please click here. To buy your own copy, click here or here . Thanks for your support in my writing endeavors!

The Proof Arrived

The proof of the new children’s book, “Jack Learns to Grill,” arrived by UPS today!

"Jack Learns to Grill", my new children's book
“Jack Learns to Grill”, my new children’s book

“Jack Learns to Grill” is all about a feisty , curious and loving dingo, who loves to learn new things. Since his dad is in the grill business, he wants to learn to grill. This is the first in a series of “Jack Learns…” books in which Jack learns something- the next book is “Jack Learns about Bullies”

I am looking for “Jack Learns to Grill” to be available for sale next week. Look for coupons, discounts and perhaps even book giveaways to come. This book is at second and third grade level. Hope you will check it out!

Solitude with Doodle

My grand-daughter has moments where she is seemingly in deep thought. I wonder what a child -three years old thinks about. But, here is my most favorite photo of solitude. We were at the Harbor eating outside and I looked up . She was standing here watching some boys play soccer and the kids at the water park. Sure would give my eye teeth to know what she was thinking!

Stories Unfolded

When I first decided I wanted to publish Cemetery Tours, I had no idea how I planned to go about doing so.  First, I thought about pursuing the traditional route: query agents, sign contracts with the big publishing houses, etc.  For a while, that sounded like the way to go.  After all, I knew nothing about copyright, barcodes, ISBN, or how I could turn my piddly little manuscript into, you know, a real BOOK.  The whole idea was actually really overwhelming.

But then I did a little research. I went to the library and read every book I could find on publishing.  I met up with a friend who had independently published his own novel and who also happens to be a lawyer.  He gave me a run down of all the pros and cons of independent publishing.  The cons being…

My Bliss For Life

My husband Stephen has been my bliss, my mainstay for over 30 years now.
My husband Stephen has been my bliss, my mainstay for over 30 years now.

I would follow this man anywhere. My husband. He is my best friend, the love of my  life and the one person who gets me . He’s stuck with me through thick and thin and believe me- there has been plenty of thin. In fact, we divorced in the late 90’s. We  were so bad at staying away from each other and at being divorced in general- we just married all over again! There were no marriages in between, so, it works out that we can just pick up where we left off. Our second ceremony was in 2000. We set the date for April- six months from our original October wedding. Works out perfectly. That way, we have an anniversary every six months!

Yep, my bliss- my husband.
